
Martin Jonas was born in 1924 in Kovacica, Serbia. He died in 1996.
He was a farmer and has lived and worked in Kovachica all his life.
His paintings have a specific philosophy of art, they show the hard work of farmers who have enlarged limbs, which makes it recognizable and unique, as well as recognized in the world of naive art. Martin Jonash was one of the first representatives of naive art in Kovacica since 1953. He used different techniques: oil on canvas, Graphics, drawings and woodcarving. He paints mostly genre art, but in his rich work there are portraits, panoramas, landscapes, animal motifs and figures. He is one of the most famous naive artists coming from this region.
He became a member of the Gallery of Naive Art in 1952.
